The 38 Fire Club is a nonprofit group of 17 members.  It was established to purchase the first "pumper" fire truck owned by the Atkins Fire Dept.  The group, through a team effort and sharing their various talents and skills accomplished a complete restoration of the 38 International fire truck.
The members now enjoy sharing their truck with the community by participating in parades in the local area.  it has won many awards and trophies in area car shows.
Each Christmas the members decorate their truck with approximately 4,000 lights.  One Sunday evening before Christmas Santa rides the truck through the streets of Atkins and delivers bags of apples, nuts, and candy to all the children.
In the years past they have given rides and freeze pops to the children during vacation bible school at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.  They have given rides to students at the Atkins school during fire week.
For the Annual Fireman's picnic their donation is to make all of the baked beans and they cook the pork loins for the sandwiches.  They also made and donated the baked beans when the American Legion had their annual steak fries.
The group is also available for children's birthday parties or other functions who would like to entertain their children with rides on the truck.
The group is now involved with building a 1938 crew cab out of international pickup parts from that era.  It will be similar in style to the fire truck and will be used to pull their fire truck to parades and other events in the area.
The group enjoys participating in and helping with local fund raisers and projects.  Anyone who would want to join in these types of activities would be invited to contact on of the members.  new members are welcomed.
